Reverend Karen Hale is a native of York Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Deacon Robia C. Sr. and the late Anna M. Thomas, the youngest of seven children. Educated in the York City School System, She is a graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Rev. Karen also attended Howard University, York College of Pennsylvania and Baltimore School of the Bible. As a life-learner, she is a graduate of New Life International Bible College with a certificate in Biblical Studies, Associate of Ministry, and a Bachelor in Theology degree; Rev. Hale desires to be enrolled in NLIBC’s Master of Divinity program. She is the founder of KRH Ministries-Kerygma (Preaching) Raises Hope and serves as Chaplain for the Southern Maryland Pre Release Unit under the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
She was licensed to preach on June 28, 1988 in Wichita, Kansas under the leadership of Reverend Calvin Williams, Sr. at the New Zion Baptist Church, and Ordained in the Preaching Ministry in Montgomery Alabama under Bishop Clarence Stewart Jr. She served as co-host to the weekly video Gospel show, Gospel Showcase and was a recurring guest on Alabama State University FM radio. She is currently Associate Pastor of Congregational Care at Christian Unity Baptist Church; under Pastor Antione Hutchins, she serves the Couples Ministry, Music Ministry, heads the Ministry of Comfort-Bereavement Ministry and recently founded the church’s Mime Ministry. God has blessed her to serve in many positions in ministry from Assistant Pastor to Interim Pastor to Youth Pastor. As a Praise and Worship Facilitator, she enjoys teaching God’s people to experience liberty and deliverance through personal worship.
As an exuberant worshipper herself, Rev. Karen loves the Lord and most of all is just grateful to have the privilege to worship the name of the Lord. Her favorite song is Total Praise; her inspirational scripture is Romans 8:18, “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the Glory that shall be revealed in us.” She LOVES and cherishes family, friends and fellowshipping with the people of God.
Reverend Karen is the wife of Reverend David Hale and she is the mother of two adult daughters (Shannon and Traci), stepmother of one daughter ( Davina) and one stepson(Derek) and proud grandmother of three beautiful granddaughters (Aniyah, Jada and Asia) and two handsome grandsons (Tyshaun, Jr. and Trenton).
Reverend Sharon Best-Burton serves as the Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Assimilation at the Christian Unity Baptist Church where the goal is to draw and disciple people to the body of Christ. Reverend Sharon was ordained in October 2014. Reverend Sharon is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. She is a recent graduate from George Mason University school of Public Policy and the University of Maryland College Park. Her favorite scripture is 1 John 4:8 “God is Love”. She is married to Deacon Linwood Burton and they have four children.
Reverend William “Ricky” Burton serves as the Youth Pastor of the U.N.I.T.E.D Youth Ministry of Christian Unity Baptist church, where they strive to nurture, educate, develop, and draw more youth to Christ. He was licensed to preach the Gospel in December of 2013 and ordained into the Gospel ministry April 2016. Rev. Ricky graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a B.S. in Computer Science and Minor in IT networking and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Divinity at The Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Rev. Ricky is married to the beautiful Charnece Burton who also serves in ministry as a coordinator for G.E.M.S (Girls Empowered and Motivated for Success) girls mentoring group.
Youth Pastor Burton is responsible for all aspects of supervision, organization, and accountability, as it pertains to the ministering to those ages 4 to 17. Founder of the campaign “Project U”, and manager of the Youth Programs of The Unity Corporation (a Non-profit Community Development Corporation that is geared towards the preservation of the history and legacy left by previous generations, along with the equipping and empowering the youth of today’s generation) Rev. Ricky engages youth ministry in all aspects of CUBC. He currently serves as the organizer for “Boy to Men” boy mentoring group were African principal for rites of passage are used to develop young boys and prepare them for manhood.
Pastor Ricky heads the development and leadership of the Youth Leadership Staff and Youth Workers, in order to create and enhance the structure and curriculum that are under his Jurisdiction. Reverend Ricky oversees those who make up the staff of the youth initiated “C.U.B.C. Bookstore”, as well as operates as the leader of the youth choirs and praise teams. His function is also that of maintaining financial accountability of all programs and products that fund the ministries to C.U.B.C.’s young people.
Youth Pastor Burton also conceptualized and implemented the community program #WildNOutCUBC. Wild N’ Out is a youth organized and run production that mimics the popular MTV show with a Christian Twist. This program uses unique methodology to teach Biblical knowledge and gives youth the opportunity to showcase that knowledge through games and challenges in a live game show production. Youth also learn production skills and techniques such as Microsoft office, audio/visual management, video editing, and marketing.
Rev. Ricky began his walk with Christ at a very young age, even to the point of acknowledging God’s anointing on his life by delivering a sermon at the age of ten. He strives to convey Gods word with relevance, simplicity, and a dash of humor in order to teach the saved and unsaved how to live abundant lives through the Word of God. During Rev. Burton’s college journey, God allowed him to branch out to use his gifts and talents in all areas of ministry to include Church & College choirs, Instrumental music, Public Radio, Youth Ministry, and even Christian Comedy. His unique experiences as a Christian comedian has allowed him to approach the word of God with a refreshing view, while using the critical thinking and problem solving skills learned in the studies of Computer Science to ask hard questions and dig deep for answers.
